Employee Q&A: Marlon Sims

What is your favorite part about your job as a Professional Services Manager?

Being at the apex of the product and the client. I enjoy the ability to improve the daily process for clients and to influence the development of the Adaptive product itself– I love making a difference, for both the client and the organization.

What is your professional background?

I started working in financial services as a broker for Merrill Lynch in San Francisco and then Wachovia Securities in Palo Alto. After earning my MBA, I was looking for something different and was actually recruited by Gap Inc. where I did merchandise/asset planning for their International Division. After that I moved to Wind River, a software company now owned by Intel, to join their Corporate FP&A team. Next I joined the DocuSign FP&A team and I used Adaptive Planning every day. Nearly three years ago, I came here to Adaptive. My diverse background is a great fit for my role in Professional Services because I have been involved with various forms of finance my entire career.

What is your favorite part about working at Adaptive Insights?

The product, the people and the process. Every day is fresh and new and I love interacting with clients. I love solving problems and I always ask myself, ”How can I make this better, faster, or easier?“ To me, Adaptive Insights is really about jumping in no matter what – being brave, confident, and poised. Obviously I love the people and the challenges, but I also truly believe in the product itself. It truly helps our customers and that’s rewarding. I am so enriched from doing my job and helping clients  solve problems– I love hearing them say, “Wow! This used to take me weeks!”

What are 5 words that describe the Adaptive culture?

What are some fun activities you like to do outside of work?

Snowboarding, wake boarding, and mountain biking; travel, photography, food and drink, and city life!
