Stories of Finance Transformation: Adaptive Insights Torchie Awards 2016

Founder, Rob Hull presenting Torchie Awards at Adaptive Live 2016

It’s always a good idea to closely watch the pioneers in our industries. What typically emerges is an unshakable desire to change the status quo. The winners of the annual Adaptive Torchie Awards are such innovators. These forward-thinking businesses have used Adaptive Insights to strategically transform financial planning and analytics and better position their organizations for success.

The 2016 winners include some compelling brands, from ZAGG—which creates accessories for mobile devices—to Cumulus, the exclusive radio broadcast partner to sports and entertainment brands like the NFL, Olympics, GRAMMYS, and Country Music Awards. In this SlideShare deck, we showcase how each company used modern financial planning and strategies to create agile organizations powered by data-driven insights.

Take, for example, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, winner of the Torchie Award for Excellence in Business Partnering and Collaboration. This is the largest voluntary health organization in the U.S.—a not-for-profit dedicated to funding research, finding cures, and ensuring access to treatments for blood cancer patients. Its challenge was a culture that viewed finance as tracking historical transactions—coupled with a long planning process that didn’t encourage collaboration.

Enabling cross-functional CPM
Its path to change began when the finance team deployed an Adaptive Insights solution to more than 400 managers and employees across 54 chapters—allowing a remarkable new form of cross-functional, corporate performance management to take root and flourish. Transparency levels for operational metrics increased, including chapter level cash flow, campaign specific returns, and donor metrics. Finally, a monthly, rolling forecast process was introduced at the chapter level to monitor cash flow. The outcome? A remarkably transparent new system that takes the long view, allowing workforce planning to anticipate organizational structural change and evaluate strategic opportunities.
